VPR › How virtual runs work
How virtual runs work — from registration to the medal on your wall
A virtual run is a race without a start line: you register online, run the distance wherever and whenever you like inside the event window, prove it with your running app or watch, and the medal is posted to you. Here is exactly how it works at VPR, what counts, and what doesn't.
1. Register
Pick an edition from the calendar, choose your distance — 5K, 10K, 21K (half marathon) or 42K (marathon) — and a tier. Checkout takes about a minute with GCash, Maya or a card. You receive a confirmation email with the window dates and the medal ship-by date.
2. Connect your tracker (once)
Connect Strava, Garmin Connect, Coros or Apple Health from your VPR account. Any run recorded on those services during the window is read automatically. If you have no watch, install the free Strava app and record runs with your phone — that is enough. Manual entries (typed-in distance without GPS or sensor data) are not accepted.
3. Run anywhere inside the window
Road, park, track, trail or treadmill. One run or cumulative distance across several days — a 42K can be six 7K runs across three weeks. Walking counts towards distance (many first-timers walk-run a 5K). Cycling, swimming and e-bikes do not.
4. Verification
When your cumulative verified distance reaches your registered distance, your entry is marked complete and your digital certificate is issued (distance, elapsed time, edition number). Suspicious activities — pace faster than world-record pace, GPS jumps, duplicated uploads — are flagged for manual review before the medal is released.
5. The medal ships within 30 days
Medals are produced after the window closes so the edition count is exact; they ship within 30 days of the deadline, tracked, and the ship-by date is published before registration opens. Series 01 ships from Manila via J&T; international orders ship DHL.
